The future is Green energy, Sustainability, Renewable energy.

As we already know that India’s energy mix is heavily skewed in favor of conventional sources of energy, more particularly Coal and Big Hydro Plants, there is growing glamour for Increasing share of Renewable energy. Renewable sources of energy mainly include – Solar, Wind, Small Hydro, Waste to Energy, Bio energy. These have numerous advantage over conventional. All conventional resources use a scarce resource which is expected to exhausts in near future. Even Hydro power falls in this category as water is a scarce resource and we have seen that countries are having hard time securing their future water needs. Renewable sources on the other hand, use resources which are abundant from nature. Wind and Solar resource won’t exhaust even if fully exploited. Other renewable sources such as waste to energy, bio energy aims to turn waste into resource.

This character of renewable sources is also expected to give cost advantage over other sources, once current technical and economic barriers are overcome. Like there is coal market, oil market there cannot be any market of wind or solar resources in future resulting in fluctuations in raw material prices. Hence only cost is Infrastructural and Operational cost is mainly of management and maintenance.

Another solid contention is of ecological expenses of regular sources which are huge. While doing money saving advantage investigation in the event that we incorporate expenses of harms to biology then sustainable power source is ideal regardless of whether its current monetary expenses are considerably higher.

Combustion of fossil fuels emits greenhouse gasses such as Carbon dioxide, Carbon Monoxide, Nitrogen Oxide, Sulphur dioxide, methane. Coal undergoes incomplete combustion which emits Carbon Soot and more carbon monoxide, these both causes respiratory problem. Carbon Monoxide is extremely poisonous and has affinity with Haemeoglobin cells, hence it can eliminate oxygen from human cells.

Nuclear Energy as we have seen, gives hazardous radioactive wastes which are to be handled for hundred of years. Any accident can cause genetic mutations in the affected people. Further, use of nuclear energy might have some link with corresponding Increase in nuclear arms because of growth and free flow of nuclear knowledge, which is beyond any one’s control.

Around 23 % of rural India continues to use Traditional Fuels such as firewood, Crop residue and dungcakes. This too have environmental and health concerns as their combustion releases poisonous gasses. It also brings hardship on rural women and girls as they spend substantial time on collecting this fuel. In recent years decentralized clean energy sources have increased and Use of portable solar cookers is catching up. This is important part of government agenda of ‘Inclusive and Sustainable development.

In this background, luckily, expenses of clean vitality, especially of Wind and Sun powered are tumbling from couple of years. There has been mechanical hindrances and unsupportive outside condition, which is presently pivoting by expanding rivalry in Industry and Indegenious advancements as well. Advance government’s endeavors of positive intercession by tact with nations, for example, Germany is normal bring numerous advantages.

Advocacy for renewable energy also came from United Nations, through its ‘United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’ in pursuance of which India adopted National Action Plan For Climate Change ( NAPCC). This action plan has 8 core mission. Among them 2 missions ie. ‘National Solar Mission’ and ‘National Mission for Enhanced Energy efficiency’ have direct bearing on the chapter.

Renewable energy could reduce emissions but also create jobs and improve public health.

The future is green energy, sustainability, renewable energy.

This Dushhera lets Pledge to limit the use of fossil fuel instead use Renewable energy wherever possible…

Bird Conservation Need Of Hour

“Save Birds”
Heard a voice crying aloud.
Simultaneously I said to myself,
“ What can I do?”

With a positive thought this question echoed in my mind and it prompted me to do something for the same. I opened my eyes and saw mother humming a song while sorting the grains and there were birds feasting on the grains lying around. While watching these birdies I realized, nature must have thought thoroughly while creating these beautiful creatures. Nature has bestowed upon them the responsibility to finish the insects and increase the forest cover. Increasing the forest cover? Sounds like a Herculean task for this petty creature, doesn’t it? But it’s the truth. Eating the fruits till they’re full and then spreading the seeds through their excreta. When these seeds get sowed into ground, a plant grows out of it. That’s how it works!

British came to India, destroyed all its wealth, culture and unity. Also disrupting the nature. Eariler, there used to be fruit bearing trees in every household which provided for food to the birds. But now, the fruitless and flowerless garden plants have replaced them. Neither do they provide enough shade, nor enough oxygen. We Indians have been so engrossed in that custom that now separating us from it is next to impossible. Its not  unknown that the mobile towers have reduced the bird count, but tell me how many fruit bearing plants have you planted lately for the birds? A women replied that their backyard has been concretized for parking and they have placed 2-3 show plants in vases and boast of having plantations in house. God save the world!

‘Atithi Devo Bhava’

We in India have a tradition of serving at least a glass of water to whosoever is standing on the threshold of our house. Then why not follow this tradition for these little visitors? True wisdom lies in it. Concretization leaves no place for the grass to grow. Hence all we see these days are the nests made up of white fabric of the plastics and inorganic waste. The seeds in the excreta of birds is wasted rather than getting sowed in the ground. In the absence of fruits, the decrease in the number of birds is evident. Let’s just get serious about it and work accordingly. Place water in an earthen bowl in your balcony. The thread used by the local grocery shop owner to tie things up in a paper is a good material for the birds to build nests. But the mall culture has replaced even this thread. Not the paper wrapping, but the plastic cover is what attracts us, isn’t it? Plastic sack is rapidly replacing the gunny sacks. We have even confiscated their right to take the broom twinges by replacing them with plastic fibers. This is a step towards destruction .Keep it in mind, the traditional birds are on the verge of getting extinct from this country on the account of deforestation. So, if you feel yourself to be accountable for all this, do your bit for conserving the birds. If you want to clean up the society, you have to start cleaning from within yourself, the world will soon be a better place automatically!

Being The Agents Of Change

BEING THE AGENTS OF CHANGE…

> How often do we travel in a train? Our Journey is often filled with those chilled plastic water bottles,cold-drinks,a packet of wafers and the world famous chai.
>
> We eat, enjoy the journey and simply throw the leftovers outside. We feel relieved after throwing it out. Do we even think for a minute before doing such senseless acts? Are we even bothered about the severe impact of our actions on surroundings? Is this the kind of freedom we are enjoying under democracy?
>
> The same piece of plastic which we throw very smoothly through the window is often the cause of clogging and chocking resulting in big disasters like recent Mumbai and Chennai floods. The same piece of plastic is often seen eaten up by our so called Go-Mata Cow and several other animals. The same piece of plastic is the cause of worry for fertility of land and various diseases. The beautiful 1,15,000 Km railways track is unfortunately getting surrounded by polythene bags.
>
> We are deeply rooted by our bad habits. What is the use of taking formal education if it doesn’t push you to implement that knowledge in daily lives? What is the use of earning those grad and post-grad degrees if they are just on the pieces of papers!
>
> Nature has already warned us and time has come to wake up. It is the  time for us to Stand up, Act and Set an Example. Why can’t I pledge to be the change?
> How about you taking an effort to take that plastic to the dustbin kept beneath the basin. How about you carrying a black polythene bag to collect the plastic waste of your own compartment and then throwing it properly. How about you setting up an example for the passengers sitting beside you.How about you being the agent of change?
> Sounds good? I do it while travelling. One such incident.
>
> I too have the same habit which all of us might have.Eating while travelling. I was travelling from Mumbai to Nagpur by sleeper class train. I was having a packet of chips in my hand which I shared with the adjacent person while debating on a  lot of hot topics. Once the packet was finished,he slided down the window and took the packet from me to throw it outside. But I immediately refrained him from doing so. I took efforts to walk (which most of us don’t take) from seat number 22 to the dustbin kept beneath the basin and adjacent to washroom. And then I threw it properly into the dustbin. It is always your actions which speak louder than words. I am not considering this as any heroic act but Your one piece of small act could suddenly change the mindset of people around you. The caring people would soon replicate such ideas and  Even if one out of 100 does it,Your job is done! Small acts when multiplied by millions of people can transform the world.
>
> It has been truly said that- Cleanliness is next to godliness. So real devotion lies not only in praying in temples but also in keeping the resources created by almighty neat and clean.
>
> So, Next time while travelling be conscious about your own actions and also encourage people around you to adopt healthy practises because “सफाई करने से ज्यादा महत्व गंदगी न करने मे है.”

Indicators Of Nature Service

Indian Culture.. The Forest Culture. Long ago, our ancestors, our saints have laid the foundation of this culture inhibiting the forests. Hence, Indian Culture is fondly known as ‘The Forest Culture’ (अरण्य संस्कृती). Rituals which are thoughtful, calibrated on the base of science are its greatness. It takes a great deal of intelligence to create a system based on the above principles whose effects we have been experiencing from generations. Today’s progress is indefinite which isn’t conducive to nature. In this scenario, we are bestowed upon the responsibility to conserve the wealth that we have, to increase it, to serve it selflessly.

Today, we have become very narrow minded. We believe, the 3 people living in our 2000 Sq. feet apartment are our sole responsibility, are our world. We have so compactly drawn walls that we pretend anything happening outside them is none of our concern. We boast of what is called as ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ , but never adopt a global belief because it needs a great amount of courage. How is it going to work? What is in mind is in deeds. We first need to eliminate the feeling from our mind that I’m an individual from a particular locality or citizen of a particular state or country and instill in our mind that, ”I am a Global Citizen.” If we accept this fact, then definitely it will be reflected in our mind and deeds. The water which we are drawing from our wells is about 500years old. The water level in these ancient sources is rapidly depleting. Actually saving it for the future generation is a totally different thing, we aren’t even thinking about it. Nature gives us intangible amount of clean, potable water absolutely free of cost each year.

Storing it, harvesting it and assimilating it into the ground would be a task of great deal. But we have become shameless enough to mask the ground with concrete in the pretext of development and leading this purest form of water to drains! We define God as shapeless, omnipresent and perfect. We also believe that He resides in every life form. On the other hand we engage in worshipping a figure or a person. Irony is, we have started doing all the bizarre activities in front of a stone in the name of God! But what in nature is abstract? It is the air which is abstract. Shapeless, without
any fixed properties. One of the main ingredient of this air is Oxygen. Being essential for life to survive our ancestors have rightly called it the ‘Pran vayu’. And it is abundantly present in nature also, it is omnipresent. Thus considering the air to be god, how many of us are its devotees and how many are antagonists? If we look around, the world is full of antagonists. Conserving plants and forest cover is need of the hour. Rather than worshipping the plant, planting and adopting trees would be considerd a noble and wise deed.

A person needs 17 plants to survive his 60 years of life. Nagpur’s population is about 30 Lakh and total trees are 17 Lakh. Statistically, not even a half tree for a person! People don’t plant a single tree in their entire lifetime, and two tree trunks are burned with the dead body of a person. So, how much ethical is this ritual and how long can we afford to continue is something that needs to be thought upon. Rather than throwing the seeds of the fruits in dustbin, thus ending the life, sow these in the soil. If there are more fruit bearing trees, there would be more birds. Ground water table will increase. Birds would be able to flourish on these trees. Ants will be able to build their anthills. Air will be purified. We will be provided with cool shade and breeze, reducing the need of fans and saving electricity. Compost could be obtained from the dried leafs and oxygen level will increase! We don’t value people as much as we used. In this era of internet, have become independent. Humanity doesn’t need the attention it did. Now, Mother Nature needs us! Its endangered now. Be a Nature Server, be a Nature Lover! We worship the almighty with selflessly , but if we serve nature even with a selfish motto we are bound to receive back not in additions but in multiples! Nature is a person’s true friend and Guru. I believe serving this Guru is the greatest form of service we can do.

Give it a thought and act accordingly.
